Realistic self help tips

Paul Knight - Sunday, January 15, 2012

There are pages and pages of self help stuff out there. Some of it's a bit fluffy. Some may be a bit impractical and bares no real relevance to you or your life. Different people write it from cross legged gurus floating a couple of inches off the floor, guys in expensive suits with orange skin and white teeth through to professors who have had their head in books all of their life. Here's my take on it!

5 self help tips for real life (change)

I am 53 at the time of writing this. I have completely started over 3 times in my life. I have traveled the world and lived in different countries. I have met many different types of people with their own take on life. I don't have letters after my name! I live in the real world not a book.

Stop doing destructive crap to your body.

You can replace most things in your life but your body is the only one you have. When it's gone it's gone. If you want to enjoy what the world has to offer, look after the thing that carries you around in it.

Work smarter not harder.

I don't have the answer to this just an example. I have changed my work emphasis from all physical teaching to part physical and part virtual (I am writing a blog after all on my own website). Did I know how to do it? No. Did I learn? Yes. Did I find the right people to help me? Eventually. Did I give up? A few times I faultered. Was it hard work? Yes but strangely fun and exciting. I was still working within the area I knew but in a different way, helping to maintain my aging body and stimulating my creative juices. Smarter not harder. Has it changed my lifestyle? Yes.

Start questioning stuff.

Just because you have believed something forever doesn't necessarily mean it's true. Sometimes it may be a limiting belief or a belief that leads you to a dead end. Unlearn and relearn by asking questions and taking another route. Grow and evolve.

Change the things you have control over and forget the rest.

Obsessing over things that you don't agree with but have no control over are a waste of your own valuable energy and time. Why would you give it away to someone or something else?

Do something fun.

What ever it may be, find something that will bring a smile to your face and a laugh that will make your belly wobble. It will help ward off the illness and gloom gremlins that surround us all. Attract different people in to your life by not being such a boring ******* and give yourself a much more positive outlook and therefore more inclined to do the other four tips!
