How to start exercising (right now!)

Paul Knight - Saturday, August 20, 2011

If you are reading this you are probably at home thinking of starting an exercise program. Maybe searching for a DVD, gym, equipment or clothing. How long will you do this for? How many excuses not to do it will you come up with? "It's not the right time, didn't realise it would be that expensive, it's too far away, that looks too hard, Mmm that sounds ok but I'll start it in a couple of weeks". The list goes on.

Well you're here so lets do it NOW!

If you are sitting, stand up and sit down again a few times till your heart starts to beat a bit faster. Repeat that a few times. Go pick 5 of your favorite dancing tracks and bop around the lounge as if you were on 'Britains got talent'. Walk up and down the stairs 10 times or walk to the end of the road or around the block at a pace fast enough to get you breathing a bit harder. Hold a food tin in each hand and lift your arms up and down above your head 10-20 times. Pretend Mohamad Ali just walked in, float like a butterfly and throw a few punches for 1 or 2 rounds. If you are not alone who cares, they can either join in the fun or make a hasty retreat away from the crazy person. Now you have started your exercise program. You are on your way. You are moving and having fun at the same time.

You don't have to know all the facts and technical stuff. Learn as you go, just know your limitations and listen to your body, it knows more about you than the books do! Tomorrow maybe research more but move more too! DID YOU DO IT?
